DENPLAN ESSENTIALS
We have quite a few hyg’s going on incorrectly for Denplan Essentials- this gets picked up at reception usually but FYI- D Ess band B get 2 x hyg per year- usually with the exams but not always. D Ess Band C get 4 x hyg per year. I am trying to put pop ups on to show this. But it is quite easy to work out if you look at £ sign.
NOTE TAKING
It is really important that our note taking is accurate. When using templates esp. hyg- check they don’t contradict each other- please delete what not required. As requested by CN/MC, I will look review the templates and remove any pre-written notes. Also, if a heading is following by a hyphen (-) then notes must be written or the heading removed. I will discuss this individually with BW/NR & LS. Also, I will look at this in more detail when I next do the hyg notes audit & exam notes audit in 03/2026.
MEDICAL HISTORY & ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION-
We discussed that if a pt. declares that their alcohol intake is over the recommended limit whether we should be giving advice. So, over the next 12/12 and for new/returning patients, we decided that all clinicians would address this as part of the MH check at exams. After 12 months, hopefully, we will have got through most people so we will ease off as we don’t want to be offending pts.
LAB WORK CODES
When checking lab work returns for the next day – don’t forget implant crowns, inlays start with an ‘I’ (not just crowns ‘C’ and dentures ‘D’)
DECLINED HYG APPTS
Please take off COT and then TC- always add a note that pt has declined to book hyg.
EMERGENCY SLOTS
These are still mysteriously disappearing regularly- always on REC2. If you use an emergency slot, please put one put another in !! If there is nowhere to put another, that appointment is not available until same day or late the day before! CN/MC often extend if slots at end of sessions- if this happens emergencies will then have to be squeezed elsewhere. Please ask CN/MC first.
RCT CONSENT FORMS
This has been going quite well with MC pts. But don’t forget CN patients all need a consent form too. Reception, when booking RCT 1 appts, ask pt if they have been given a consent form in the surgery- if not please give them one (in file at reception). Endo referral tracker working well- thank you – I will set up as ‘months’ for 2026.
CHARGING THROUGH APPOINTMENTS
Please charge through as early as possible, esp. hyg . This can be done at any time with hygienist appts (charge but keep them in the chair). In treatment appointments with dentists – please try and charge through before starting the notes whenever possible. Reception can’t send receipts if not charged through and cannot see what appts to book and things get forgotten.
TREATMENT REMINDERS
When calling pts, the day before, to remind of treatments appts- please don’t forget to check they have had their estimate as lots of emails going into spam theses days.
DEFIB
We discussed replacing the defibrillator. Decision made to replace due to lack of availability of replacement batter and pads- NEW ONE NOW ORDERED.
DECORATOR
As we are now not proceeding with Xray room- I will crack on with getting the decorator booked for a good practice spruce up.
NEW REFERRAL SERVICE
We are looking at expanding MC endo and JS XLA’s/ implants over the next few months. ML/NL/RS will be putting a pack together over next few weeks to be sent out to other practices. Initially, we will staff these extra sessions with existing staff and locum. Thank you to Zoe and Sarah for offering to do possible Tuesday sessions.
CPD club
This is going well for some of us 😊- when the most recent courses (Jan 2026) are complete- in addition with the CPR training- the annual 10 hours is done! -However, not all core topics have been covered so I will continue to put monthly courses on- no pressure here 😂.
TEAM BUILDING
If was mentioned that we haven’t had a team building / get together for a while. Becky suggested going to the bowling or the interactive darts at The Light cinema in Stockport. I will throw some dates out in the next few days.
