SOP Update
Infection Prevention and Control have published updated guidance. You can read it here :
COVID-19: infection prevention and control dental appendix - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
In summary, all fit and well patients (ie NO to all covid screening questions) can be treated with LEVEL 2 PPE for non-agp and agp appointments. Fallow has been removed for these patients. Aprons can be worn for AGP instead of gowns. Gowns should still be worn if a procedure is likely to produce excessive splashing. A FRSM Type IIR mask is now acceptable during AGP rather than FFP respirator. However, please feel free to continue wearing your FFP respirator if you feel more comfortable doing so.
Patients who answer YES to any of the covid screening questions will be asked to rearrange their appointment unless they require urgent treatment. If urgent treatment is required then patient must attend wearing a FRSM mask and an FFP will still need to worn during an AGP. Fallow time will still be required.
All our other COVID procedures (ie waiting outside etc.) will continue.

Hygienist - NSK Varios Handpiece
With the changes to our SOPs, it is likely the hygienist will be using the ultrasonic scaler more routinely. Therefore, it is important to decontaminate the handpieces asap after use to ensure one is always available. As fallow is no longer a consideration, nurses are able to leave surgeries at any point during the appointment.
